In my line of work, I get to travel a few times a year, usually to major cities throughout the US. I just returned froma conference in Dallas and had an opportunity to spend a little time touring the city. First, and most importantly, I visited Dealy Plaza and the Texas Book Depository. This was the site of the John F. Kennedy assassination. The museum is done very very well and I highly recommend it to anyone who has any interest in our nation’s history.
I also got a chance to visit the Dallas Aquarium as well. This is not the largest aquarium I have ever visited, but it was one of the nicest in terms of the way it was implemented. Like many aquariums, they have more than just fish. In fact, they have a bird sanctuary that is amazing and includes other animals such as the sloth and an anteater, as well as bats, snakes, spiders, lizards, etc.
They even have two manatees. The entire set-up makes you feel like you are in their habitat and its one of the most natural I have ever seen. I work right across the street from the New Jersey Aquarium in Camden and that aquarium is pitiful in comparison.
The Dallas Aquarium has multiple tanks dedicated to saltwater fish and coral and each one is focused on a specific region. They have a tank of giant clams, each around 2 feet long. They have a tank full of duncans. I mean full! There must be over 1000 heads in there. And they have a bunch of cuttlefish as well. They also have everything from your standard mushrooms through high end chalices and SPS.
So, enjoy the pictures! They were all shot with my new Droid phone. I forgot to bring my DSLR.
